A Beginner Approach to Affiliate Marketing

As I sit here and try to figure out what I want to work on next, I ponder. What have I learned so far when it comes to affiliate marketing? I’ve come a long way in a few months, but I still have a long way to go.

Here’s a few general bullet points regarding what I’ve learned and what I’ve experienced up until this point. Reviewing this makes me realize how much of a beginner I am right now, ha!

Clickbank is easy to get into and understand as a newbie affiliate.

One must learn to have a consistent and disciplined system of tracking campaign data. You just need to find a system that works for you.

Google Adwords can be easy to get into but it can get expensive quick if you’re not careful.

Set firm budgets and stick to them.

Get used to failing often.

Read as much stuff as you can on the subjects you need to know.

Learn how to use automated email systems, such as Aweber.

Learn how to build simple landing pages quickly & efficiently.

Make some landing page templates that you can duplicate easily.

Learn how to build content rich sites.

Learn how to outsource if you don’t know how to build web sites.

Learn how to use WordPress.

Get used to testing new software all the time to see what works best for you.

Learn how to write good sales copy.

Learn how to hire others to write sales copy if you are convinced you can’t write.

But really, at least try learn how to write sufficient copy, it’ll make life a lot easier.

Learn some techniques to write catchy Adwords or other PPC ads.

Learn how to track sales based on individual keywords, so you know which keywords are making you money.

Use Google Analytics.

Learn about SEO.

Find some good online tools, and bookmark them and use them to save yourself time.

Find some good keyword research software.

Read blogs by other affiliate marketers.

Join some forums focused on affiliate marketing.

Join other marketer’s mailing lists and study how they communicate to you.

Learn how to blog.

Learn how to take advantage of stock photo services to get cheap photos for your web sites.

Don’t sit in front of the computer for too long, take breaks.

Learn how to use social networking sites.

Learn how to use Google Adwords.

Understand that there are other advertising systems out there and try different ones to find what works well for you and your niches.

Investigate lots of different things, but at the same time try to stay focused on one money making campaign at a time at first so you don’t get spread too thin.

Don’t give up.
