Affiliate Marketing: Tell a Story, People Will Listen

I’ve recently been hearing a lot of the same thing from various outlets. Tell a story. The story is what people are interested in.

“What was your experience with what what you want to sell me?”

That’s what most of the people who will be reading your content will want to see. How can you tell a good story that others will want to hear?

Just think about your own experiences with the Internet. When you are on the web, what are you usually doing?

Besides lurking around addictive web sites and partaking in other questionable activities, most people use the Internet to learn about stuff. They are wanting to research something. They are wanting to find information about other people’s experiences. They want to figure out things that are generally unknown to people who don’t use the Internet.

People want to get insight from other people.

When you tell a story, you give all those things to your audience. You are sharing your own experience with them to make them a better person. They identify with you, and more than likely they are reading about your story because they want to be like you in some particular way.

Here’s an example.

Let’s say you write about dirt bikes on a blog. You write about the bikes you like to ride. You write about the techniques you used to build the track out in your back yard. You write about the equipment you buy and how it helps you ride your bikes to a higher capacity.

People who want to learn more about how they can be a better dirt bike rider will be interested in your content. They want to be like you, at least as far as dirt biking goes. So they are then interested in your stories. They want to learn from your experience. They want to get some ideas from you regarding how to be a better rider, or how to at least look the part :)

That’s what you need to do when marketing your products. Be a person that others want to be. Talk about how you got there. Talk about how the products helped you out.
