Inspiration Tip: Use Google Alerts
Every blogger hits mental blocks. Sometimes you might have just taken a couple days off and your head is not really “in it” when you get back to your projects.
What do I like to do to help get over this block?
I like to use Google Alerts. Why? Basically, I get emails daily that send me links to recent news and other information for various topics.
I’ve found using alerts like this to be a great way to keep my mindset on track on a daily basis. Some days I might not really be interested in opening the email full of links and alerts. That will usually happen when I am already knee-deep in a project.
But, on the days that I need to try to get my mindset back on track so that I can effectively dig back into the daily grind, I like to read some of the emails that I get from the alerts.
For some reason, just seeing all those different topics and articles gets me thinking about what I need to be thinking about.
How do you get Google Alerts?
Basically just do this:
- Go to Google
- Create a Google account (if you don’t have one already, most probably do)
- Go to www.google.com/alerts
- … and follow the simple on-screen instructions.
That’s easy stuff. Now you’ll get alerts in your email based on keywords. Slick stuff.
