Why do I write this blog? 0
I ask myself this question every now and then. It’s a common question that a blogger will often ask themselves. Why write content for this blog on a continual basis?
I’ve actually got a few reasons right now. I’ll get into a couple of the big reasons.
The biggest reason I write this blog is to basically track my own progress as an online marketer. Whether I’m trying to make money blogging, as an affiliate marketer or using any other method – this is going to be my “journal” of sorts.
The secret journal
I’m hoping that by the time I really figure all this stuff out that I will have all kinds of experience to share. I am hoping that over time this blog becomes the equivalent of the prized journal of a missing spelunker, containing secrets and experience that will save people from having to walk through the traps and learn things the hard way.
How’s that for an analogy?
The journey
If I find anything of interest to my journey, I will post it here. Be it news, software reviews, thoughts, experiences and rants.
The second biggest reason that I write this blog is that I want to be able to have a test ground for new ideas. If I want to try a new SEO technique, I can try it here. If I want to try a new Wordpress plugin and put it through the ringer, this blog will be a good place to do it.
So, I’m basically doing two things with this blog: Sharing experiences and testing things.
Another blogger opinion
Another thing that got me thinking about this today was a recent post by Yaro Starak regarding how to make money teaching people how to make money.
There is one great section about why you don’t simply want to pretend like your making money and try to appeal to people that way, in the hopes they will just follow you and buy things that you recommend.
This might seem obvious, but for those people who can only see the dollar signs and not reality, understand that credibility is a big part in converting a sale.
Think about that a little bit – yep that makes sense. That is the specific reason that I don’t bill myself as a marketing guru on this web site – because I’m not a guru, yet.
I’m trying to really be up front about the fact that I’m learning as a go here, and presenting that in a way that “maybe you can learn something with me if you follow along”.
Now, I know that might not be the best way to market myself in terms of being lucrative right off the bat. I am hoping, however, that being honest about this journey will make things look better when I do start posting about success, and therefore start having more credibility as a teacher and a guru.
And as far as working as an affiliate marketer in the “make money” niche? Yaro has a good point about that too.
It’s very likely that anyone today who has made good money in the Internet marketing niche has earned money in other niches before or still do. If you’re currently running a blog that just promotes how to make money products and that’s your strategy for striking it rich, it’s time to face reality and try a different angle.
That’s what I like to read. It just makes sense.
Good stuff.
