Dealing With Empty Promises From Outsourcers
I ran into an issue where a writer I hired did not deliver. This happened within the last few months.
I hired them to write about 50 articles for me at a certain price.
They started out well, delivering articles every couple days as they said they would. All was well. Then the excuses started to come in.
“We’ll have them all done by this weekend”.
“Sorry for the delays, you’ll have them all by Wednesday”.
“We’re currently polishing the articles and will deliver shortly”.
Stuff like that every few days.
What did I learn?
Don’t wait around for them to deliver.
If they don’t hit deadlines you have established, cut them loose immediately.
Why?
If you don’t, you might risk running past the period of time that you can dispute a payment or charge for bad services.
In my case, I had payed them through Paypal and they have a time limit on how long you can request to get money back from somebody for failing to deliver. I didn’t make the request before the period expired because I was being too patient with the writer.
Eventually, the writer completely disappeared and won’t respond to anything.
I’m out about $70, which is pretty small change so it really doesn’t matter to me too much.
But I’m not going to deal with empty promises from outsourced writers or otherwise in the future.
I would suggest that anybody who is new to outsourcing stick to their guns and hold their hires accountable. Don’t get too nice and let them delay things. Cut them loose if they give you a run around. And don’t waste too much time doing it.
The funny thing is that I’ve been outsourcing for quite a while now, and this is the first time I’ve really run into this. I would have expected this to happen to me sooner than it did, but I’ve gotten pretty lucky with my hires apparently.
